Downs Park To Host Family Fun Day
The event raises money for the Pasadena park’s summer concert series.
The Family Fun Day will feature live entertainment from the Old Mill High School steel drum orchestra and local band Bad W/ Names, according Andrea Clayville, event coordinator.
“I am super excited that Bad w/ Names will be playing a free concert for our guests as well,” said Clayville in and email to Patch. “In between the music, guests can enjoy two magic shows with Willie Woo Woo and hear the fun songs of Ellis Woodward.”
Clayville said the funds raised from the event will go towards the Downs Park summer concert series, which features nine concerts every Sunday from June 2 through July 28.
Last year the event charged park admission, but Clayville said that will not be the case this year. The Family Fun Day will also feature plenty of activities for kids.
“Children can jump their hearts out in a few moon bounces and have faces painted and make a craft in the craft making section,” wrote Clayville. “After that, spend some time with an Anne Arundel County firefighter and learn about fire safety in the county fire safety interactive area.”
Family Fun Day will also feature a few local businesses. The new Menchies in Lakeshore Plaza will be there, along with Lake Shore Library and Glenn's Gourmet Bakery. Local artists will also be there to sell crafts and other products.
Clayville said they will also have a nature walk.
“Back by popular demand, [there will be] a nature walk with Dave Cohn,” Clayville wrote. “[Cohn] knows all the secret places where the pretty flowers bloom, and a couple of other secrets tidbits about Downs Park forest.”
Despite the rain, more than 1,000 people attended last year’s Downs Park Family Fun Day.
“This is such a great event at Downs Park; it helps us get the word out there that Downs Park is a fun place to hang out and make some memories with your family,” Clayville wrote. “Being a free event pretty much fits into anyone's budget. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and set up camp all day and just enjoy themselves.”
