Fall Sports Tryouts Set for Saturday
Northeast and Chesapeake tryouts will begin on Saturday.
How do you get a high school kid up at 8 a.m. on a Saturday in the summer? Hold fall sport tryouts then.
Athletes at Chesapeake and Northeast High School will begin fall sports tryouts on Saturday morning. The tryouts begin less than two and a half weeks before the start of school.
Chesapeake High School Athletic Director Chip Snyder said all teams will be at the school at 8 a.m. Saturday for the preliminary stat of their fall sports season.
The Cougar football team will host its first game at home on Aug. 31 against South River High School. The team finished the season last year with a 5-5 record, despite going 3-27 two previous year.
When Patch spoke to head coach Rob Elliott in January he said he was enjoying the challenge of turning the football program around.
“I played football there and my senior year was one of only two winning seasons the school has ever had,” Elliott said. “So now I’m going back and coaching, and trying to turn around what has been one of the worst programs in the county. Everyone that has ever played football at Chesapeake is sick of hearing about how bad Chesapeake is. So it is a good challenge to come in and try to turn it around.”
