Flooded Roads Force Driver Rescues

The fire department is warning of road closures as a result of flooding overnight. Firefighters rescued at least three drivers at intersections in Laurel and Glen Burnie.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is warning of road closures as a result of flooding from Wednesday's heavy rains, and said it has rescued at least three stranded drivers.

Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the department, said firefighters responded twice Thursday morning to reports of stranded cars at the intersection of Whiskey Bottom Road and Brock Bridge Road in Maryland City. The first call came at 2:30 a.m. and a second came at 7 a.m. In both instances, crews rescued one driver and there were no reports of injuries.

Swindle also said the department rescued a driver at about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Hammonds Ferry Road and Interstate 695.

Those intersections remained closed as of Thursday morning, and Swindle cautioned against drivers maneuvering around barricades.

Come on people! These guys have more important calls to be on. How many times have you been warned to NOT drive through water more than a couple inches deep! Use your common sense....
