Former Chesapeake Principal Found Murdered in Florida
William Norman, Chesapeake High School’s first principal, was found slain in Davie, FL.
Chesapeake High School’s first principal William Norman was reportedly murdered and found floating in a canal in Davie, FL, on Thursday. Two teens were charged in the incident, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Norman was principal at Chesapeake High from 1976 until 1983, according to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) spokesman Bob Mosier. The school’s auditorium is named after Norman.
According to The Sentinel, Norman’s body was found floating in a canal with a plastic bag tied over his head, and two Florida teens confessed to beating him before dumping him in the water.
Norman started working in the school system in 1961 and was principal at Old Mill and Northeast High School before Chesapeake opened. After his time at Chesapeake, Norman worked in the central office before retiring in 1989, Mosier said.
According to The Sentinel, police said that money was the motive behind the crime.
CORRECTION: This story was revised to clarify that Norman worked for the school system from 1961 to 1989, and that he was principal at Chesapeake High from 1976 to 1983. Patch regrets the error.
