How Healthy is Anne Arundel County?
The county ranks in the top 10 most healthy in the state of Maryland, according to a recent report.
Anne Arundel County ranks as the ninth most healthy county in the state and in the 90th percentile of the nation, according to a recent report.
The study by the University of Wisconsin Public Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), a New Jersey-based organization concerned with public health, looks at counties across the United States. It is based on several health and social factors, including access to healthy foods and health care providers, physical activity, smoking, excessive drinking and obesity, among other factors, according to RWJF.
In Maryland, the report indicates Howard is the most healthy county, with Baltimore city coming in last.
Of note, the report shows in Anne Arundel:
- 28 percent of county residents are obese
- 20 percent are physically inactive
- 84 percent graduated from high school
- 25 percent of children live in a single-parent home
The figures have varying degrees of error margin.
