Lake Shore Rotary Club To Host Family Fun Day

The Pasadena-based organization will host a Family Fun Day fundraiser at the Pasadena Golf Center.

The Lake Shore Rotary Club is getting the entire family involved in this year's annual fundraiser.

The Pasadena-based club is hosting a Family Fun Day at the Pasadena Golf Center on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"For 10 years we did a golf tournament, which is the main fundraiser for the scholarships that we give out," said Fran Ouellette, Chair of Pasadena Family Fun Day. "This year, we are not doing a golf tournament like they have done in the past. We are just calling it the Pasadena Family Fun Day."

Each year, the Lake Shore Rotary Club gives out five scholarships. Two go to Northeast graduates, two go to Chesapeake grads, and the third is given in honor of the estate of Vernon Frame , which has offices on Fort Smallwood Road. The Frame scholarship goes to a student who is going to study law.

Ouellette said a golf tournament was held in the past in honor of Bill Stallings who was a member of the Rotary Club. However, the turnout for the tournament was becoming increasingly smaller and organizers decided it was time for a change.

"Well, we wanted to keep the event local so I proposed to the Rotary board that we change to Pasadena Family Fun Day and open it up to everyone in Pasadena, not just 28 golfers," Ouellette said. "After much consideration, they decided this is what they would do."

Tickets for the Family Fun Day are $10 until Sept. 15 and then $12 leading up to the event. One ticket gets you unlimited activity consisting of mini golf, batting cages and a driving range. There will also be a longest drive contest and mini golf tournament from 10 a.m. to noon.

Keeping with the family theme there will also be activities for kids including a moon bounce, face painting, tie-dye and the Big Vanilla Rock Climbing Wall. The will also be fire engines from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. And the sheriffs’ office will be there to offer finger printing for kids.

If you buy at ticket, you will also get a wristband for the food and beverage cart on the patio for a hot dog, bag of chips and a beverage.

There will also be numerous raffles.

"I would like to raise $10,000 from this event," Ouellette said. "If we raise more than what they need for the scholarships it will be kept in community fund for any non-profit organizations that need assistance and that come to us."
