UPDATE: Man Dies After Being Struck on Ritchie Highway
Raymond Richard Walkup, 63, died after being struck while walking in Pasadena on Monday evening.
UPDATE (9:45 a.m.)—A man died after being struck by a car Monday evening while attempting to cross Ritchie Highway on foot, Anne Arundel County police said.
Police said Raymond Richard Walkup, 63, died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said emergency crews responded at about 7:45 p.m. Monday to a report of a pedestrian struck near Jumpers Hole Road and Ritchie Highway.
According to police, Walkup was trying to cross Ritchie Highway just north of Jumpers Hole Road. He was reportedly wearing dark clothing and was not walking at a designated crosswalk. Police said he has no fixed address.
Police said the vehicle struck Walkup in the southbound lane. A preliminary investigation into the case indicates that pedestrian error was the primary cause of the crash, along with Walkup's lack of visibility to the driver.
Alcohol use on the part of Walkup may also have played a role, police said.
