This week's Patch Whiz Kid is 10-year-old activist Katherine Desrosiers

• Accomplishment: Raising donations for the Christina Taylor Green Memorial Fund

• Key to Awesomeness: When Katherine heard about the tragic death of Christina Taylor Green on January 8th, she knew she wanted to help honor Christina's memory. She did research online and found that Christine's parents established a memorial fund in her name. Katherine sent a letter to all her schoolmates encouraging them to remember the life and spirit of Christina by wearing spirit bracelets and making a small contribution to the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.

  Katherine is not new to charitable giving. She has donated 36+ inches of hair to Locks of Love, was the top fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart at her school last year, and ran a lemonade stand last summer to help raise money for her school when it was damaged by a fire. “I am very proud of Katherine for her kind heart and giving spirit,” says her mother, Bridget. “I hope her spirit touches other young hearts and urges them to try to make a difference!”
