A press release from the office of the county executive follows:
Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman has ordered County flags to fly half staff on September 11 in honor of the nearly 3,000 men and women who lost their lives as a result of the senseless act of terrorism that rocked our nation 12 years ago.
“Most of us remember where we were and what we were doing when we learned of this terrible tragedy,” said Executive Neuman. “And just as we remember that time, we can never forget these heroes, particularly the 343 first responders and 60 police officers, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”
In addition to flags flying half staff, Executive Neuman is asking County employees to observe a moment of silence at 9:58 a.m. – a minute before the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
Also at 9:58 a.m., Executive Neuman will join Fire Chief Michael Cox and Police Chief Kevin Davis along with Anne Arundel police and firefighters at the 9/11 Memorial in front of Fire/Police Headquarters in Millersville for a brief remembrance.
At the 9/11 Memorial, fire and police personnel will observe a moment of silence which will be followed by a prayer by police and fire department chaplains in honor of those who were lost on this tragic day.
