New Distracted Driving Laws Come Into Effect Oct. 1. Now is the time to get a hands-free device for your cell phone if you don't have one already.Attention Marylanders:
Local Voices blogger and Annapolis-based attorney Drew Cochran discusses distracted driving in his latest blog post.
"In Maryland alone, between 2007 and 2011, 152,000 people were injured in distracted driving accidents and about 1,100 were killed," he writes in his blog. "Nearly two-thirds of drivers say they talked on a handheld cell phone while driving in the last month, and one in three do it on a regular basis."
Cochran warns that putting your phone on speaker while it's in your hand is still a violation. (However, one Patch reader shared how she uses her bra as a hands-free device!)
