I no longer live at home, so I don’t see my brother every day anymore. If I had to bet, I would say he hasn’t bought my mom a Mother’s Day gift yet. In fact, I will most likely give him a call this afternoon to offer a gentle reminder.
If you happen to be like my brother David, and you still need some extra inspiration for that perfect Mother’s Day present, here are some suggestions.
If you’re on a budget this year, one of the great mom presents is a picture of her kids. If you have a pet, include the pet in the photo. Then, buy a nice frame for the picture and it makes a great gift. As simple as it may sound—it works. During my poor college years, I did this for my mom and she still has the picture prominently displayed in the kitchen.
When Father’s Day rolls around, team sports apparel flies off the shelves. Don’t forget mom is a sports fan, too. Despite Tuesday night's game, the Baltimore Orioles are off to a great start. Is mom an Orioles fan? Get her a T-shirt and take her to a game this summer. She’ll love spending time with you even more than the shirt.
It may be cliché, but moms love flowers. However, instead of going to the florist and getting an already put-together arrangement, go to a local nursery and buy a pretty flower. Then head to Michael’s or Target and buy a nice pot and plant the flower yourself. Your mom will like that you took the time to make her a gift instead of buying something that is pre-arranged.
Lastly, summer months are right around the corner, which to moms means open-toed shoes! Get mom a gift that allows her to be pampered with a pedicure. is offering a few specials this Mother’s Day. You can buy three spa manicure/pedicures for mom and get the fourth free. The salon is also offering other deals: A free haircut with any color service; and buy three facials, get the fourth free.
These are just a few ideas for mom, but whatever you decide to get her she’ll love because it came from you.
