Growing up I have always had a passion for writing. It is an amazing gift to be able to share the written word with other people. With a few strokes of a keyboard you can show the world what you have to say, inform them of breaking news, or simply share a memorable story. As the new editor of the Pasadena Patch, I hope to do just that.
I have been guest editing for Pasadena Patch since January, and was officially named editor on Monday. As the new editor I hope to share with you the news of Pasadena that matters the most to you.
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in May with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. I have always had dreams of being a big-time sports reporter and, while in school, those dreams began to come true.
During my four years at Maryland I interned with The Baltimore Sun sports section, covered the Washington Capitals for Inside Hockey, and covered high school sports in Prince George’s County.
After graduating, I began freelance writing for my hometown Patch, Bel Air. I started off covering high school football games, but quickly found a world of news outside of sports when I covered an event involving the men and woman in the Maryland National Guard.
On an assignment from my Bel Air editor, I went to Aberdeen Proving Ground to write a story on the 30 members of the Maryland National Guard deploying for Iraq that weekend. After spending the morning talking to the families of the brave men and woman who risk their lives for our freedom, I discovered there was a world outside of sports I could enjoy too.
As the editor of Pasadena Patch, I hope to share more stories like the one in Aberdeen. While sports reporting is still a passion of mine, I enjoy sharing the stories of many other community members as well.
I hope you will continue to read Pasadena Patch and always let me know what you want covered. If you ever have an event or issue you would like me to check out, please let me know. I am here to report the news that matters most to you.
In short, hello Pasadena! I am excited to be here and hope I can share with all of you some of the stories this town has to tell.
You are doing a fantastic job with the Pasadena Patch! As a former school administrator, I especially enjoy your coverage of local school issues - and kids' accomplishments in the fine and performing arts as well as sports. Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks again The Mathews Family / Bay Area Computers
