Student Allegedly Brings Knife to Arundel Middle

Administrators were alerted that a student had a knife. It was later discovered on the cafeteria floor by a student.

Police and administrators at Arundel Middle School were alerted Friday that a student carried a knife into the building.

According to a letter sent home to parents, a student informed administrators that another student had a knife sometime near the end of the school day.

The School Resource Officer was alerted and took the suspected student to another room. Another student then located the knife on the cafeteria floor, and brought it to school administrators, officials said.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, but officials said police charges and appropriate disciplinary action will be handed down to anyone involved.

Arundel Middle School Principal Yolanda Clark praised students for their response to the incident.

"I want to commend the student who alerted our administrators to this situation and the student who discovered the knife and brought it to an administrator," she wrote. "They did exactly as they should have done."

Clark stressed that the incident was not related to a rumor of a threat from a student that had been spreading throughout the school.

"I want to reassure you that we have been aware of these rumors since they first surfaced last week and have been working in consultation with our Office of School Security and the county Police Department to address any issues that arise," Clark wrote. "While I am prevented by law from discussing any information that is student-specific, I can tell you that the rumor that began recently has been investigated through multiple avenues and determined to be unfounded."
