Anne Arundel County Police found a human skull in a wooded area behind Ritchie Highway in Pasadena on Monday afternoon, and later found the rest of the body, according to a police press release.
According to the release, at 2:47 p.m. on Monday officers arrived at a wooded area behind the 8100 block of Ritchie Highway after a report of human remains being discovered.
Upon arrival, a person who was in the area said that he was walking into the woods when he discovered what appeared to be a human skull. The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
A search team was formed to find additional remains and the body was recovered in the wooded area after an extensive search. The unidentified body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and to determine the cause of death, according to the release.
Police said no other information regarding the body or how long it was in the woods is available at this time.
The search team involved in the incident consisted of members from the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division as well as volunteers using cadaver dogs from the Chesapeake Search Dogs and the Mason Dixon Search and Rescue Dogs, Inc.
