Speed and alcohol are suspected factors in a single-vehicle crash Thursday that left a North Beach man in critical condition, according to a release from the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Officers from the Southern District were dispatched at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday to the area of Greenock Road and Brookswoods Road in Lothian. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer was northbound on Greenock Road and failed to negotiate the curve prior to Brookswoods Road.
Authorities said the 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer left the roadway, struck several bushes and then hit a utility pole before stopping between the two road.
The driver was identified as Robert Michael Clay, 23, of 3600 block of Seventh Street in North Beach. He was able to get out of the SUV on his own before police arrived, and was flown by Maryland State Police Medevac to the Prince George's County Trauma Center. On Friday he was listed in critical condition.
The investigation continues into the cause of the accident.
