Battalion Chief Steve Thompson said southbound Route 2 is closed up to Jumpers Hole Road, and is expected to remain closed for the next three to four hours.

Crews hope to have northbound Route 2 opened in the next 30 minutes.

The tractor trailer began leaking fuel shortly before 3 p.m.

Thompson, said when crews arrived on the scene it appeared as though the tanker part of the truck had released itself from the trailer—causing the fuel to spill.

Thompson said the driver of the tanker appeared to be making a left turn on to Route 2 from Route 10 at the time of the spill.

No one was injured in the incident and the leak is now under control. Environmental crews are on scene to help with the cleanup process.

Travelers are being asked to use alternate routes. According to an alert from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, those on Route 2 south are being diverted to Jumpers Hole Road. Travelers on Route 10 north are being diverted to East West Boulevard.

Route 100 east is diverting from Route 10 south and continuing on to Catherine Avenue.
