There was considerable attention focused on Fort Meade last year and its impact on Anne Arundel County, as the installation welcomed three new agencies as part of base realignment and closure (BRAC) activities.
Odenton-Severn Patch reported that operation brought about 5,700 new jobs to Fort Meade, but the expansion there continues.
U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency are bringing thousands of new jobs and will be setting up huge offices on base.
Meanwhile, installation commander Col. Edward Rothstein is overseeing more than a dozen other projects ranging from the construction of a new Veterans Affairs health clinic, a new PX shopping center, a new hotel, new apartments and an indoor firing range.
