will host a kickoff event for the start of its Human Performance Signature Program on Thursday at 6 p.m., according to a release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
According to the release, signature programs are community-based, workforce-driven programs. They are designed to engage students in rigorous learning through real world coursework, co-curricular opportunities, field trips and internships.
A team of school and school system personnel, community and business leaders and parents, developed the program. It will focus on the integration of healthy mind, body and soul. It also allows students to explore how health, fitness and environmental influences affect overall success in life, according to the release.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools announced that Thursday’s kickoff event will feature nationally known author and athlete Scott Rigsby, who became the first double amputee ever to compete an Ironman Triathlon with prosthetics in 2007.
Rigsby is the author of the book Unthinkable and will relate his personal story of overcoming the odds and reaching new heights.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the school cafeteria. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. More than 70 companies and agencies will be on hand for a career fair to showcase related careers for students.
