Patch stopped by the girls varsity lacrosse practice and spoke with defensive captain Amber Andino, 18, about her lacrosse career and her plans for the future.
Pasadena Patch: You have been on the varsity lacrosse team for three years. What is one of your favorite memories?
Amber Andino: My favorite memory is pretty much practice every day. We have a really good time [at practice]. We are kind of a joking and fun team, but we are still serious in the right moments. This is my favorite team to play with out of all of the sports teams I have been with; we just get along so well. It’s a good group.
Pasadena Patch: What other groups or activities do you participate in at Northeast?
Andino: I play varsity soccer for Northeast. I am also in a few clubs. I am in the Young Democrats Club. I am also in Interact club, where we go out and do things for needy people in the community. It is fun to help everyone else out.
Pasadena Patch: What do you like best about Northeast High School?
Andino: The kids are really good here. It isn’t really a lot of cliques like most people think are in high school. We all communicate well when necessary. No one is afraid to say something to someone else and I like that. We aren’t shy and timid we are outgoing and will talk to anyone.
Pasadena Patch: How is the season going so far?
Andino: I think our season is going really well. We have made a lot of improvements over the last year; and a lot of other coaches, parents and referees have seen us progress. It is a really positive way to end—in terms of having more wins this year than we have in the past.
Pasadena Patch: You are a senior, so what are your plans for next year?
Andino: I am going to the University of Maryland, College Park for the pre-med program. I want to major in biochemistry and I want to be a neurologist or a neurosurgeon. I’m aiming high!
