Local Teams Go After Championships

The Arundel football, volleyball and girls soccer teams will all be in action this week. Teams from Old Mill and Meade also have championship aspirations.

It does not take long to add up the combined number of losses by the Arundel football, volleyball and girls soccer teams.

The teams have nothing but wins on the season, and continue their quest for state championships this week in the playoffs.

The volleyball team begins its quest for a third straight regional title when it opens the playoffs Monday at 6 p.m. against Leonardtown.

The girls soccer team will host South River in the regional final on Tuesday at 5 p.m. A win would place them in the state final four.

The football team is 10-0 and will host local rival Meade High, which qualified for the playoffs after beating Broadneck last week.

With a win, Arundel would face the winner of the game between Old Mill and South River.

Is the CROFTON Patch aware that a significant portion of the kids from CROFTON go to South River High School? Every single headline talks only about Arundel - the "local" team. Guess what? Arundel is not the only local team for Crofton - South River is just as "local" and the way that South River is consistently ignored in what is supposed to be our hometown Patch is wrong. The final straw? This article talking about the upcoming championships mentioning only Arundel in big type and then adding insult to injury by including Old Mill and Meade in smaller print while burying South River as after thoughts in the last paragraphs of the article.

@Teri - I understand your concern, and we'll try to do a better job with this. In case you are not aware, much of the coverage of South River High is handled by Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch, since that is the primary high school down that way. But we'll work harder to make sure we're coordinating things to ensure everyone is covered fairly here on Crofton Patch.

We live in Crofton, we go to South River, the Crofton Patch is our local source. Just as South River is just as "local" a team as Arundel is. Thanks for keeping that in mind for the future.
