To celebrate Independence Day yesterday I went back to my hometown of Bel Air to spend some quality time with my family. When it comes to Fourth of July, few towns put on the extensive celebration that Bel Air does.
There are frog jumps, turtle races, pancake breakfasts, parades, fireworks and more. I spent the day catching up with my parents and enjoyed a cookout at my aunt’s house.
Despite the fact that I am 23 years old, I am still a child in many ways—one being that I absolutely love fireworks. However, I must be growing up some because I decided to head back to Anne Arundel County before it got too late, which unfortunately resulted in missing the Bel Air fireworks spectacular.
I started my drive leaving my neighborhood to the sounds of those around me blasting fireworks in their backyards. Then I got on Interstate 95 and to my surprise, witnessed firework after firework the entire way home.
It was beautiful. While on I-95 I saw a show from the White Marsh area and once I got on Interstate-695 I’m sure I was seeing several from Baltimore. At one point the car in front of me pulled over and parked on the side of 695 to watch the show.
When I went over the Key Bridge, it was all I could do to concentrate on driving because the fireworks were so beautiful over the water. A couple was even pulled over before the bridge and in lawn chairs watching the show (probably not the safest location).
The show continued all the way until I got off Route 100 in Pasadena. So, even though I missed my hometown firework show, I got a variety of fireworks from shows all over Maryland. It was a great end to the Fourth of July holiday.
