5-23 O's From the Booth - O's Drop Finale to Red Sox
Good evening from the Booth O's fans. It was not that good of an afternoon at the yard today. The weather was great for a business man special this afternoon. The O's jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a Chris Davis sac fly driving in Xavier Avery who stole 3rd pretty much as he tagged up from 2nd to 3rd on a Nick Markakis fly ball to left field. The Red Sox got that run right back in the top half of the 2nd on two singles, a walk, and a double play that drove in a run. Arrieta was able to battle only giving up the one run that inning. Nick Johnson got the O's right back on top with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning. The Red Sox tied it again in the top of the 3rd as Pedroia scored on a double by Will Middlebrooks. The O's got Youkilis at the plate on the same play with a great relay from Avery and Andino to keep the game tied at 2. Jake Arrieta was able to battle to the 6th not getting much run support. He gave up a home run to Daniel Nava after getting the first two out in the 6th. He then gave up a single to Scott Posednik. Buck decided that was it for Arrieta who just did not have the command he had last week. I applaud his efforts today not having his good stuff but really needs to show some consistency. Luis Ayala came in and gave up a 2-run shot to Kelly Shoppach to extend Boston's lead to 5-2. Nick Johnson drew the Orioles back within 1 as he hit his 2nd home run of the day after a Wilson Betemit walk. It was now 5-4 heading to the 7th. The home run ball hurt the O's again in the 8th as Darren O'Day gave up a solo shot to Scott Podsednik. The O's drew closer again in their half of the 8th. After Nick Markakis singled and Adam Jones doubled the O's had something cooking with 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Chris Davis then struck out. Wilson Betemit hit a fly ball to right field which looked to be in no man's land and maybe give the O's the lead. Out of nowhere came Che-Hsuan Lin to make a great diving catch. Markakis scored to make it 6-5. That was as close as they got as Aceves got them 3 up 3 down in the 9th. The Red Sox took 2 of 3 from the O's. The O's had a lot of baserunners today. They had 10 baserunners against Daniel Bard in 5 1/3 innings and only managed two runs. It was a game of missed opportunities today. The Rays are back within one game of the O's now as they had a walk off win against the Jays today.
Nobody panic. The Orioles are still playing good baseball. They just came up a little short today. The Red Sox are a hot team right now as well as they are all the way back to .500. This sounds like dejavu from last year. On another note, the Orioles received great news as Brian Roberts made the short trip south to Bowie to start his rehab assignment tonight. He was able to draw a pair of walks and scored a run before departing the game in the 5th inning This is a great start back for Roberts. The O's get a much deserved and much needed day off tomorrow before a weekend battle with the Royals. This will be my last post until Monday as I will be out of town in the mountains with no service at all. I truly I hope to come back to see the O's take at least 2 of 3 from the Royals. It is very exciting to be going away with the O's in first place. I would like to see them there upon my return as well. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend O's Fans and I will catch you all on the other side. Let's Go O's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
