Good evening O's fans, and yes what a day it was for the O's. Brian Matusz took this team on his back today and said I am not going to let us lose today.
Brian took a huge step forward today. He went 7 1/3 innings and I do not think he was ready to come out from his reaction in the dug out. Matusz gave up only two hits while striking out seven and walking three. He retired the first batter in the 8th, Joe Lobaton on a ground out to short.
After a battle with Carlos Pena, Matusz walked him. Buck decided that was it for Brian and turned it over to Pedro Strop. Pedro walked B.J. Upton after quite a battle. He then was able to get Ben Zobrist to hit a one hop line drive to Andino. Andino flipped the ball low and away from Hardy at 2nd but J.J. was able to bring it in, touch 2nd and make a strong throw to first base to turn the double play.
They got out of the inning preserving the lead for Brian Matusz. The O's were unable to add any insurance in the 9th after a lead off single by Adam Jones. The game was turned over to Jason Johnson.
Jason came in and retired the side three up and three down in the 9th, The O's win 2-1. There was not much offense. Endy Chavez did hit his first Oriole home run to give the O's the 1-0 lead. The O's got their other run on a throwing error by Rays 3rd baseman Drew Sutton allowing Mark Reynolds to score the go ahead run.
The Rays got their lone run in the 5th on a Sean Rodriguez double and two ground outs to bring him in.
This was a huge game for Brian Matusz and the Orioles. The six game skid is over, they are now tied again for first place and have a chance to win the series tomorrow with Jake Arrieta on the mound. Maybe Jake can ride the coat tails of Brian Matusz and get the O's a series win before heading to Fenway. Let's Go O's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
