Good evening Orioles fans. First of all I want to say thank you to all of those who serve and have served our country on the Memorial Day 2012. If not for them none of this would be possible.
As I mentioned on Thursday night I was away all weekend in the mountains of West VA, cutoff from the world of communication for a few days. Looking back over the box scores and highlights it seems like the O's got all of the offense and pitching on Friday night winning 8-2. The weekend did not fare as well as they dropped the final 2 of the series to the Royals.
The O's bats did not seem to do much in those final 2 games. On a bright note the O's with great news signing Adam Jones to a 6 year contract extension worth 85 million. This is the richest contract in Orioles history and makes him the 2nd highest paid center fielder in the game behind Matt Kemp. With all of that said they were still ties for first place coming in to tonight's game with Toronto. They had a chance to take over sole possession of first place again as Tampa lost Monday.
Monday night was much of the same as the weekend. Tommy Hunter only lasted 3 innings. He had no command and gave up 6 runs, 5 of them earned on 9 hits. He was up in the zone and got hit hard. The offense did not do anything as they only managed 3 singles through the first 8 innings. They did manage 2 runs in the 9th but came up short 6-2. They have now lost two consecutive series for the first time this year and have lost 3 games in a row.
The O's have been able to fight off the long losing streak all year long. They can not afford to go into one of those 10 game losing streaks. I do not see that with this team. I truly believe in this group of guys. They believe they can win and so do I.
Jake Arrieta is on the hill Tuesday and needs to pitch a solid game and get this team back in the win column. Jake has been pretty inconsistent this year. The O's need him to step up tomorrow. The offense really needs to step up as well. They need to get on the board early to take some pressure of the starters. The O's still share first place. Let's hope they can get back to the winning ways tomorrow. Let's Go O's.
