O's From the Booth 9/6: O's Rock the Yard and the Yankees on Cal's Statue Night

O's / Yankees recap

What an amazing night at the Yard!

It was Cal Ripken's statue unveiling night and a sellout crowd, a see of orange.  This may go down as one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of attending.

The crowd was electric from pitch one.  The Orioles rocked Yankee Starter David Phelps for four runs in the first inning.  Hardy, McClouth, and Jones hit hard singles to give the O's the 1-0 lead and Then Wieters hits a 3-run opposite field blast to jump the O's out in front 4-0.

The Yanks got one in the top of the fourth and then Andino hit a bomb in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-1. Mark Reynolds led off the sixth with a home run to give the O's a commanding 6-1 lead.

Come to find out they would need every bit of it. Jason Hamels made his return tonight going five-plus innings only giving up one earned run. He was hit by a line drive in the right arm off the bat of Robinson Cano in the fourth, but was able to continue. He pitched a great game in his return.

Hammels turned it over to Randy Wolf who pitched well into the eighth. The Yankees come to life, all with two outs, in the bottom of the 8th inning. Randy Wolf got two outs walking Nick Swisher in between that. Alex Rodriguez then doubles and Swisher scored from first.

Eric Chavez then walks.  Exit Wolf, enter Pedro Strop.  Pedro did not have it tonight. Granderson singled knocking in a run, then he walks Russell Martin and Chris Dickerson walking in a run it making it 6-4.  He then gives up a single to Ichiro and all of the sudden the game is tied.

The crowd who had been electric all night was stunned.  Darren O'Day came in and got the O's out of what was a long inning.  On to the ninth.

This Orioles team picked up their team mate Pedro Strop in a huge way.   Adam Jones leads off the eighth crushing one into the left field bleachers giving the O's the lead again 7-6.  Matt Wieters then singles.  Mark Reynolds comes to the plate and drills one into the left field bleachers, making it 9-6 and the Yard was ROCKING!!!!

He has hit eight homeruns in his last seven games with three multi-home run games in that stint. Unreal.  The Yanks take out pitcher David Robertson bringing in Boone Logan.  Before the crowd could even catch their breath, Chris Davis hits a bomb over the scoreboard on Logan's first pitch!!!  The Yard was in absolute Mayhem!!!!

The Orioles sucked the life right out of the Yankees!!!  It was amazing.   Jim Johnson cane in to close it out in the 9th.  The crowd was as loud as I have ever heard it.  I have not felt that kind of electricity in Camden Yards since the playoffs in 1997.  This may have even been more electric than that.  It was just an absolutely amazing night.  The Orioles hit a season high 6 home runs!!!  They are now tied for 1st place again with the Yanks.  This is going to be a very exciting weekend at the Yard!!!  O's fans come out and support this amazing team!!!!   Let's Keep ROCKING THE YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
