County High Schools Ranked in Top 9 Percent for Providing College-Level Exams

Students in Anne Arundel County high schools are among the most tested in the state and country.

All 12 public high schools in Anne Arundel County were ranked in the top 9 percent of schools preparing students for college, in a national index by The Washington Post. Eleven of the schools ranked in the top 50 in Maryland for testing students with Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate and other college-level exams. "This index makes it crystal clear that across our county, more students are more prepared for college than they have ever been," said Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Superintendent Kevin Maxwell, in a press release. Maryland Schools Top Nation in AP Tests Ranking

In 2012, 29.6 percent of Maryland students scored a three or higher on an Advanced Placement exam—the highest percentage in the nation.

Maryland students have once again secured a number one ranking—this time in the number of students scoring a three or higher out of five on an Advanced Placement (AP) test. The state moved up from 27.9 percent in 2011 to 29.6 percent in 2012, the highest percentage in the nation, according to a report released by the College Board Wednesday. A total of 48.2 percent of Maryland students took the exam in 2012, up from 46.4 the previous year. According to spokesman Bob Mosier of Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS), “Enrollment in AP classes reached nearly 15,000 last year, and AACPS administered more than 13,200 AP exams.” AP exam scores range from one to five (highest score) and students may earn college credits prior to enrolling in …
