Anne Arundel County police announced the results of a three-day operation to apprehend citizens with outstanding warrants for violent crimes.
Anne Arundel County police announced the arrest of 14 people for outstanding warrants stemming from incidents violent in nature, after a detail of investigators from AACOPD and the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office worked to locate the individuals from May 6 to May 8. A traffic stop led to the seizure of cocaine at a Glen Burnie hotel Monday night.
Anne Arundel County police arrested a man and woman from Pasadena in a traffic stop that ultimately led officers to find $7,000 in cocaine at Glen Burnie hotel on Monday night. Between April and May, detectives received a tip that two people were distributing cocaine between Glen Burnie and Pasadena. At approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, police conducted a traffic stop of the two suspects described in the tip, on Route 10 near Furnace Branch Road. Police arrested both occupants, and obtained a warrant to search a room in a Glen Burnie hotel. Officers seized approximately 70 grams of cocaine inside the hotel room, valued at $7,000 along with $800 in cash. Marylanders by the dozens turned over unwanted firearms to police in the first statewide "Gun Turn-In Day," sponsored by Attorney General Doug Gansler. A total of 250 firearms were turned in, the attorney general's office announced Tuesday. The guns turned in are now unavailable to those who would misuse them, according to David Paulson, communications director. "If one life is saved or one serious injury is prevented in Maryland, this effort is entirely worth it," he added, citing what he said law enforcement officials had expressed to the attorney general's office. Anne Arundel County police say they connected the teenagers to at least four residential burglaries.
Anne Arundel County police arrested three teenagers and charged them in connection with at least four burglaries, after finding the teens during a reported burglary-in-progress Monday afternoon. Officers responded to the 7700 block of Suitt Drive in Pasadena at about 1:15 p.m. and determined the burglars had left the scene. As officers investigated, another call for a burglary-in-progress was reported less than a mile away in the area of Colony and Fort Smallwood roads. This time, officers found three teens at the scene. Officers arrested Michael Ryan Deshawn-Patrick, 18, of Annapolis, and two juveniles whose names weren't released: a 16-year-old girl from Crofton and a 15-year-old boy from Pasadena. Officers arrested Jamar Davis of Severn in theft charges after a witness accused him of rummaging through a car Saturday morning.
Anne Arundel County police arrested a man Saturday in the break-ins of nearly 30 cars in the Seven Oaks section of Odenton. Police said they charged Jamar Nathaniel Davis, 19, of Severn with multiple counts of theft. A witness told police they saw him rummaging through cars in the area of Arcadia Shores Circle. A spokeswoman says computers, purses and a wallet were taken from the Severna Park home while Bongino and his family slept.
The Severna Park home of Dan Bongino, the former Secret Service agent who ran for U.S. Senate in 2012, was broken into Wednesday night and many valuable items were taken. Someone broke into the home, disarmed the house alarm system and took computers, purses, wallets and “anything valuable,” according to Bongino’s spokeswoman Karla Graham. She added that the break-in occurred while Bongino, his wife and children were sleeping. “We don’t know what is going on or who would have done this,” Graham said. “We are hoping by posting things that someone might hear something or see something.” Read more about the burglary on Severna Park Patch.

Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver announced his resignation this week and the department honored his 40 years of service Friday morning at police headquarters in Millersville. Tolliver's resignation is effective May 21—there has not been an official announcement about who will replace him. More than 40 people, officers and civilian employees, gathered for a presentation of a plaque to Tolliver in appreciation for his decades of service in Anne Arundel County, according to police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy. "He reminded the crowd that people and relationships are most important," Mulcahy said. Annapolis police are accepting unwanted guns at department headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 199 Taylor Avenue, on May 11 as part of the first annual statewide gun turn-in. Anne Arundel County police are also accpeting guns at the Glen Burnie Improvement Association (GBIA) building, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Police will take handguns, rifles and shotguns, no questions asked, at the GBIA building at 19 Crain Highway. State Attorney General Doug Gansler organized the statewide initiative, and 24 jurisdictions throughout Maryland will be accepting guns Saturday.
