Each year the Lake Shore Rotary Club gives out scholarships to local high school seniors pursuing a college education. The winners will be presented their scholarships at the Family Fun Day on Sept. 29. The Lake Shore Rotary Club gives out five scholarships every year. Two go to Northeast graduates, two go to Chesapeake grads, and the third is given in honor of the estate of Vernon Frame, which has offices on Fort Smallwood Road. The Lake Shore Rotary Club is getting the entire family involved in this year's annual fundraiser. The Pasadena-based club is hosting a Family Fun Day at the Pasadena Golf Center on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "For 10 years we did a golf tournament, which is the main fundraiser for the scholarships that we give out," said Fran Ouellette, Chair of Pasadena Family Fun Day. The Rotary Club of Lake Shore is hosting their third annual Crab Soup Cook Off from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Kurtz’s Beach. The cook-off is the Rotary Club’s biggest fundraising event of the year with a large portion of this weekend’s proceeds going to a scholarship fund for Northeast and Chesapeake High School students. “The money goes to our scholarship program as well as other organizations in the Pasadena area,” said event co-chairman Larry Sanders “It also goes to a program we run called the Dictionary Project for third-graders.” Throughout the year, the Lake Shore Rotary Club participates in a number of service projects. Just a minor correction to the article. We raised the money for the scholarships at the Pasadena Family Fun Day. The scholarships will be given out in the spring,when the seniors are graduating. We were fortunate to have 250 people attend our event & we will be on target to give out 5 scholarships.   more ›
