The tornado watch & flood advisories cover much of Maryland Wednesday night into Thursday.
(Update 8:00 p.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 10 Maryland counties. Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Harford Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties were listed on the weather site's alert. The watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday. Harford, Carroll, Howard, Northern Baltimore, Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties, and South Baltimore are under flood advisories until 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for Anne Arundel County and much of the Baltimore and Washington, DC, region and forecasts a possible five—or more—inches of snow. A winter storm watch means there is the potential for significant snowfall, as opposed to a warning, which indicates a storm is imminent. Precipitation will begin as a mix of snow and rain Thursday morning, changing to snow later in the morning and through the afternoon, according to the watch. AccuWeather is warning of a storm possibly bringing snow, power outages and coastal flooding next week.
A "substantial" winter storm could blow its way through Maryland by the middle of next week, according to the weather website AccuWeather. The website’s current forecast predicts a potential for rain that could turn into snow, with coastal flooding and power outages. “While the details are still uncertain, a larger, slower-moving and more powerful storm could slam the mid-Atlantic and New England with heavy precipitation, strong winds and above-normal tides Tuesday (Dec. 18) into Thursday (Dec. 20),” according to an email from AccuWeather. The current forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a chance of rain through the early part of next week, but doesn’t currently predict any snow for the area.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey a couple of hours ago and Marylanders can expect heavy rain and strong winds for the next 12 hours.
The eye of Hurricane Sandy is making its way through the upper Chesapeake Bay and 280,000 Maryland residents are without power, Gov. Martin O’Malley said Monday night. The storm made landfall near Cape May, New Jersey, earlier Monday night, according to meteorologist Ken Wedelski of the National Weather Service. It is moving on a north/northwest course but is slowing down, moving at about 23 mph. About half of the citizens in Cecil and Harford counties are without power. Rain and strong winds will continue in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. AACPS officials canceled all after-school events due to Tuesday night's weather forecast.
Tuesday's severe weather forecast caused Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) officials to cancel all after-school activities, including Chesapeake Bay Middle's back-to-school night. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a coastal flooding advisory Tuesday morning due to anticipated rain and wind gusts that could reach 40 mph. The closing affects all after-school sports events, band practices, rehearsals and the like. Potentially damaging winds and hail could be coming to Anne Arundel County Tuesday night.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. for a large portion of Maryland, including Anne Arundel County and the surrounding area, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Strong winds and possibly large hail in the forecast. The service said showers and thunderstorms will develop later Tuesday afternoon due to a slow-moving cold front. Some storms will be severe and capable of producing damaging winds gusts and possibly large hail, according to the NWS. A small craft advisory is in effect through 11 a.m. Wednesday. A heat advisory is possible for Thursday with a possible 105 degree heat index and severe thunderstorms are also possible on Thursday, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service said heavy rain and localized flash flooding could be on its way following Saturday morning's thunderstorm.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather warning Saturday morning that will remain in effect throughout the weekend for Maryland towns on and around the Chesapeake Bay. Counties alerted in the warning included Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George’s and southern Baltimore, according to the NWS. The release said heavy rain beginning at 8:07 a.m. Saturday was especially hazardous for waterfront communities and specifically mentioned Edgewater, the Naval Academy, the Rhode River and more. National Weather Service says flood prone areas on the western shore likely to see high water.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory, in effect from 4 p.m. on Tuesday until 2 a.m. on Wednesday. If your home or business is located in a flood-prone area, please take the necessary precautions. High winds combined with a tidal anomaly will make water about 1.5 feet above typical tides. The area for impact includes Anne Arundel, Calvert, Harford, southern Baltimore and St. Mary's counties. The next high tides include: The NWS forecast said that Tuesday's rains are expected to continue, heavy at times, until 11 p.m. For Wednesday, the morning weather is predicted to be sunny and 45 degrees at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall of one to two inches could come today, perhaps as much as three to six.
With heavy rainfall on Saturday and more expected on Sunday, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Maryland, including all of Anne Arundel County, through Sunday evening. A widespread rainfall of one to two inches is expected on Sunday, and localized areas could receive three to six inches. A Coastal Flood Advisory has also been issued until noon on Sunday.
