VIDEO: Organizers Explain Why Students Didn't Plunge Friday

Anne Arundel students didn't participate in the regularly scheduled Cool School plunge because of exams and then weather conditions caused Friday's festivities to be canceled.

The early morning snow on Friday caused both excitement and disappointment for Anne Arundel County students who had plans to plunge in the icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. Due to concerns for the safety of participants, the event on Friday was canceled by organizers Special Olympics Maryland and Maryland State Police (MSP) in collaboration with the school administration. Students did not have a delay in the start time of school Friday and previous communication from organizers indicated that the event would still occur in the event of rain or snow. While organizers have not said the event would be rescheduled, they did send an email saying that students will still receive their souvenir sweatshirts …

Ravens Caravan Paints Plungefest Purple

The upcoming Polar Bear Plungefest will be visited by Ravens cheerleaders and band members, hyping up plungers about the Superbowl.

This year's Polar Bear Plunge will be tinted with purple, thanks to the participation of the Baltimore Ravens caravan, which includes official Ravens cheerleaders and band members, according to a press release. The Maryland State Police-hosted fundraiser is showing its true color is purple with the involvement of Baltimore Ravens staff at this Saturday's 17th annual Plungefest. "To celebrate the amazing Baltimore Ravens, a founding sports partner of the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, this Saturday’s 17th annual Plunge is being turned into the world’s largest and most unique Purple Passion Pep-Party," the release read. Frigid Friday Moved to Feb. 1 for Local Student Plungers

Anne Arundel students will plunge alone on Feb. 1.

Anne Arundel County Public School students will have their own day to plunge in this year's Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. All other participating schools in Maryland will plunge on Jan. 25 but, due to exams, Anne Arundel County students' day in the water was rescheduled—they will plunge on Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m. The annual Plungefest, hosted by the Maryland State Police, helps to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. Thousands of plungers, sponsored by friends, family and neighbors, toss themselves into frigid, Chesapeake Bay water.  This year's main event, which is open to the public, is set for Jan. 26 at Sandy Point State Park.  Local schools had a big success last  year. Save the Date for 2013 Polar Bear Plunge

The 17th annual plunge where participants run into the chilly Chesapeake Bay will take place on Jan. 26, 2013 at Sandy Point State Park.

Before you know it, 2013 will be here and so will the annual Maryland State Police (MSP) Polar Bear Plunge. Each year, thousands take a quick dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland. The Plungefest, which is open to the public, is set for Jan. 26, 2013 at Sandy Point State Park. Frigid Friday for participating schools will take place the day before the Plungefest.
