SPCA Hosts 'St. Pitty's' Weekend

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is hosting a pit bull adoption event in honor of St. Patrick's day.

You can celebrate St. Patrick's Day this weekend by adopting a pit bull for free. The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is hosting "St. Pitty's Weekend" March 15-17. During the event, pit bulls can be adopted free of charge to approved owners. "We have a number of pit bulls right now, and we have been looking for a really good way to advertise them," said volunteer coordinator Kim Teter. "We have a lot of really good pit bulls here, and St. Patrick's Day - St. Pitty's day kind of worked." Those interested in adopting can print off an application from the SPCA website and fill it out ahead of time, or they can simply head to the Annapolis location to take a look. SPCA To Offer Pet Food Bank

Starting Thursday, the Anne Arundel County SPCA will donate pet food to needy families with pets.

The Anne Arundel County Food Bank and the SPCA are teaming up to help local pets in need. Beginning on Thursday, the SPCA will host a Pet Food Bank, where families in need can pick up food for their furry friends. “The Pet Food Bank is an offering to the community for anyone who meets the low income requirements to help supplement their pet food purchases for the month,” said volunteer and foster coordinator Kim Teter. “So they don’t have to choose between keeping the pet and feeding them and their self.” Teter said this is the first time the SPCA has had a Pet Food Bank but it hopes to open up the drive every other Thursday. SPCA Hosts Half Marathon Adoption Day

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County will be open for 13 hours and 10 minutes for animal adoptions on Saturday.

Are you thinking of adding a furry friend to your family? The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is hosting an adoption event on Saturday. The SPCA in Annapolis will be holding its first Half Marathon Adoption Day from 8 a.m. to 9:10 p.m. Saturday, according to a release. In honor of the event, the SPCA will be offering same-day adoptions to approved applicants. If you are interested in taking a dog, cat or small animal home with you SPCA officials said to bring a copy of your lease with you if you rent your home. The Half Marathon Adoption Day also will include a fun run hosted by Fleet Feet Annapolis at 8:30 a.m. and a "runner's expo" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The expo will include tables, giveaways, and/or discounts from the Annapolis Striders, …

Get Involved with Anne Arundel County SPCA

One of the largest and oldest animal welfare organizations in the county is seeking volunteers.

If you need a reason to get involved with the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, Volunteer and Foster Coordinator Kim Teter has the perfect answer. “Where else can you go where 70 different dogs get beyond excited just because you’re there,” said Teter. To coincide with National Volunteer Week, Patch has been writing about various organizations in Anne Arundel County that are seeking volunteers. The SPCA of Anne Arundel County, at 1815 Bay Ridge Ave. in Annapolis, is one of those groups. “People love the greeting their pet gives them when they come home. Five Guys Holding SPCA Fundraiser

Five Guys on Mountain Road will donate 20 percent of its profits on Thursday evening to the SPCA.

  The Five Guys, located on Mountain Road in Pasadena, is hosting a fundraiser for the SPCA of Anne Arundel County from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 8. The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is a private, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other SPCAs or Humane organizations. According to a release from SPCA of Anne Arundel County fundraising/event coordinator Mindy Nelson, if you go to Five Guys on Thursday and mention that you are there for the SPCA, Five Guys will donate 20 percent of the food proceeds to SPCA. They will also have merchandise tables at the restaurant and all proceeds from that will also go to the shelter.
