GLEN BURNIE, MD - Police said they prevented a car theft recently in Glen Burnie.

The car is a Hyundai, a make frequently targeted because of a social media challenge.

Officers said they arrested three teenage girls. Authorities did not release the names of the suspects, which is normal protocol for minors charged with most crimes.

Police only identified the suspects as:

  • A 16-year-old from Crofton
  • A 15-year-old from Pasadena
  • A 14-year-old from Essex

Officers said they were called to the 6500 block of Home Water Way last Friday around 1:45 a.m.

The victim reported seeing three teens trying to steal their 2018 Hyundai Elantra sedan, authorities said.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said it found and arrested the suspects.

Hyundais and Kias have been targeted nationwide this year as a TikTok car theft challenge points out flaws in their anti-theft systems.
