MARYLAND - Maryland's outpatient surgery facilities were recently rated among the nation's best.
Newsweek in October released its latest rankings of 550 ambulatory surgery centers. Maryland had 17 sites on the list, including three in the nation's top 30.
Nottingham's Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Center - White Marsh was ranked the sixth-best in the country.
Columbia's University of Maryland Medical Center - Ambulatory Surgery Center was rated No. 14 in the nation.
Another Columbia site, Johns Hopkins Endoscopy & Surgery Center - Columbia, came in as America's 30th-best.
Newsweek partnered with research firm Statista to develop the rankings. The list was based on "recommendations from medical professionals and a thorough analysis of the facilities' performance data."
"Ambulatory surgery centers, where patients can undergo common surgical procedures such as cataract surgery or a colonoscopy, have become a cornerstone of modern health care," Newsweek Global Editor-in-Chief Nancy Cooper said on the rankings page. "These centers offer the convenience of quicker procedures, with the patient typically returning home on the same day. Unlike more intricate surgeries performed in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers offer streamlined care focusing on efficiency and patient comfort."
